Industrial and Systems Engineering – Graduate Student Association Constitution

Article I.           Name and Purpose

Section 1.        Name

The organization shall be known as the Industrial and Systems Engineering Graduate Student Association (ISEGSA).

Section 2.        Purpose

The objectives of this organization shall be:

  • To present the graduate student body of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering.
  • To give the graduate students an open forum to discuss concerns they have with the department.
  • To disseminate information of interest or importance to its member students.
  • To promote and foster unity within the graduate students through seminars, social gatherings, and other activities.

 

Article II.        Membership

The membership of the ISE GSA will consist of all graduate students enrolled in the Industrial and System Engineering department at North Carolina State University.

 

Article III.    Officers and GSA Representatives

Section 3.        Positions

The elected officers of this organization shall be:

1) President 2) Vice-President 3) Secretary   4) Treasurer   5) GSA Representative

Section 4.        Election of Officers

Officers shall be elected by secret ballot by the members of the organization to serve a term of one year. Election shall be determined by the plurality of the votes cast.

Section 5.        Date of Elections

Elections shall be held towards the end of the spring semester and the terms of office shall begin at the end of the last exam of the spring semester. Any vacancies created by the early retirement of an officer shall be filled by presidential appointment or, at the request of the organization, by a special election.

Section 6.        Duties of the Officers

1)      President

  • Act as the liaison between faculty and graduate students and between GSA and ISEGSA.
  • Coordinate with persons and student organizations associated with events for ISEGSA members.
  • Aid the other officers in the activities sponsored by the ISEGSA.

2)     Vice-President

  • Act as the liaison for the ISEGSA in dealing with other organizations.
  • Update the Constitution as required and submit a copy to GSA.
  • Aid the other officers in the activities sponsored by the ISEGSA.

3)      Secretary

  • Take and maintain the minutes of ISEGSA meetings.
  • Aid the other officers in the activities sponsored by the ISEGSA.

4)      Treasurer

  • Handle all aspects of the finances. This includes managing both NCSU FAS accounts (i.e., working with the office assistants) and money in other accounts.
  • Organize all fundraising events.
  • Handle the billing and payment in ISEGSA sponsored activities.
  • Aid the other officers in the activities sponsored by the ISEGSA.

5)     GSA Representative

  • Serves as the representative to the GSA Council.
  • Attend the requisite number of monthly GSA All-Council meetings and the requisite number of GSA Internal Standing Committee meetings in order for ISEGSA to receive an annual rebate from the GSA.
  • Arrange for an alternate representative to fulfill these duties in the event of the absence of the primary representative.

Section 8.        Removal of Officers

An officer shall be removed if he or she does not fulfill his or her duties, or is detrimental to the organization. Nominations are held to fill the vacancy of office.

 

Article IV.     Meetings

Section 9.        Meeting Times

Meetings shall be held on a monthly basis, or called by the officers as needed.

Section 10.        Agenda

The President will introduce topics on the agenda, and an open discussion will follow each given topic. Additional topics may be introduced by members after the agenda is covered, before the meeting is adjourned.

 

Article V.         Amendments

Section 11.        Proposal

Amendments to the Constitution shall be presented by members of the organization in writing, and read at a regular meeting. There will be an allotted time for questions and debate if necessary.

Section 12.        Voting

Amendments to the Constitution shall be voted on during the next regular meeting after in which the said amendment was proposed. All members must be informed of the proposed amendment. A majority vote of 2/3 of the present members is required for an amendment to be passed.

Section 13.        Alterations

The Vice President shall be in charge of altering the Constitution with the changes accepted in the amendment.
