The School of Industrial Engineering and Management at Oklahoma State University seeks talented and motivated candidates for one faculty position starting in Fall 2017. 2017-2018 Herman Goldstine Postdoctoral Fellowship in Mathematical and Computer Sciences, IBM Research (11/20/2016)

The Mathematical Sciences Department of the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research
Center invites applications for its 2017-2018 Herman Goldstine Memorial
Postdoctoral Fellowship for research in mathematical and computer sciences.
The fellowship provides scientists of outstanding ability an opportunity to
advance their scholarship as resident department members at the Research
Center. The department provides an atmosphere in which basic research is
combined with work on technical problems arising in industry. Our members
pursue research in pure and applied mathematics and in theoretical and
exploratory computer science. Areas of research include: algorithms
(approximation, randomized, and on-line); complex systems; data mining
(machine learning, pattern recognition, computational statistics); dynamical
systems; high-performance computing (scientific computing, parallel computing,
big-data); inverse problems; numerical analysis; optimization (discrete,
continuous, global and stochastic); operations research; probability theory
(stochastic models, risk management, queues & queuing networks, simulation);
and statistics (time-series, multivariate analysis, spatiotemporal analysis,
design of experiments & reliability). Up to two fellowships will be awarded.
The fellowship is for one year and may be extended for another year by mutual
agreement. The stipend is expected to be between $105,000 and $130,000,
depending on the length of prior experience.

Tenure-Track Human Factors Faculty Positions (11/17/2016)

The Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISE) at the University of Washington invites outstanding faculty candidates to apply for two full-time (100% FTE) tenure-track/tenured faculty positions (9-month service periods). We are seeking excellent candidates in Human Factors and Ergonomics with strong quantitative backgrounds. We are primarily focused on hires at the rank of Assistant Professor, although candidates with exceptional experience may be considered for appointments at the Associate Professor level.

Georgia Tech: Academic Professional / Director of Student Services (11/17/2016)

The H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering of the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for the position of Academic Professional – Director of Student Services. The ISyE Director of Student Services will have an academic appointment in the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering and will teach one to two ISyE courses per academic semester.
The ISyE Director of Student Services will:
  • Manage the daily operations and supervise five employees of the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering’s Academic office,

Qualifications

Post Doctoral Fellow – Optimization and Data Analytics (11/9/2016)

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine is recruiting for a highly motivated individual to carry out research in applying Operations Research techniques and Data Analytics to cancer research. The successful candidate will be responsible for research development and integration with clinical systems for clinical translation.

Qualifications and Skills
Ph.D. in industrial engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, electrical and computer engineering, or related field. Successful applicants must be highly motivated and must have strong programming/scripting (C/C++/C#, Python, Matlab, etc.) skills. Strong background in solving large-scale optimization problems and knowledge in data analytics is preferred. The candidate should demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills.
Training
This is a two to three year, full-time, mentored research position. The successful candidate will receive regular mentorship and evaluation, be trained and encouraged to disseminate research findings in major national conferences and peer-reviewed publications, and to seek extramural research funding.

Postdoc position in ML and OR at the University of Montreal/Polytechnique/HEC (11/9/2016)

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work on the topic of machine learning for decision making (operations research). The exact focus of the project will be chosen with the candidate.

The candidate should have a background in both machine learning and operations research. Fluency in—or at least a willingness to learn about—integer programming, deep learning, and reinforcement learning would be ideal.

The position is under the supervision of Laurent Charlin and Andrea Lodi. The candidate will be a member of the Montreal institute for learning algorithms (MILA) and the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Data Science for Real-Time Decision-Making.

The position is a one-year position, likely renewable for two years or more. The candidate could start as soon as January 2017 (there is flexibility).

The Operations Research (OR) Group at Amtrak provides advanced analytics, business optimization and consulting services to various internal business lines with the goal of achieving cost savings, revenue enhancements and/or business process improvement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Interfaces and collaborates with other internal teams to understand the business and technology/data aspects in order to identify appropriate opportunities and initiate new projects for business improvement using optimization, simulation, forecasting and other advanced analytics techniques.
  • Develops and implements data-driven workable solutions, analyses and decision support tools that align with business customers’ goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced analytics degree (Master’s or PhD) in Operations Research, Data Science, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management or a related field.
  • Practical experience applying quantitative techniques to solve real-world problems. Ability to identify underlying problems and appropriate techniques for solving them.
  • Expertise and hands-on working experience in at least one area as described below:
    • Mathematical Optimization: Uses commercial or open-source optimization packages such as Gurobi, CPLEX, Xpress, COIN-OR, and develops and deploys object-oriented programs (Java, C++, C#, etc.)
    • Data Mining/Advanced Analytics: Analyzes large-volume data sets and builds statistical models to obtain insights and drive improvement changes using tools such as R, SAS, Python, SQL, Tableau.
    • Computer Simulation: Develops computer simulation models (discrete event, agent-based) to analyze various business settings and scenarios. Familiar with simulation tools such as AnyLogic, Simio, Arena.
  • Strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to lead through complex projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully collaborating with a cross-section of departments and customers.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills including writing, presentation, meeting and interview facilitation.
  • Leadership and conflict resolution skills with a proven ability to motivate others and foster change.
  • Prefers past experience in railroads, airlines or the general transportation/travel industry.
